President Bola Tinubu has urged Nigerians living in the United States to overcome failure by adopting a new mindset that will help them succeed in all of their endeavors.
At the Presidential Townhall Meeting with Nigerians in the Diaspora on Wednesday in New York, Tinubu offered the counsel.
The Townhall Meeting was organized by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) in conjunction with the 78th session of the UN General Assembly, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
“I want to share a song with you that will speak to you. I previously lived in a diaspora. I can relate to what you have gone through. Change of perspective is required. Take this evening as proof that business prospects exist in Nigeria.
“Additionally, if you know how to look for opportunities and put your mind to it, there will always be opportunities wherever you go and in whatever you do, he added.
The president, however, expressed satisfaction with how Nigerians had behaved themselves and continued to perform admirably in their new country.
“You are fortunate to be among those who are praised for having nice manners and acting in a proper manner.I’m really proud of you; I’ve also helped you by providing inspiration, resolve, devotion, and tenacity, which is all you need to succeed.
However, he added, “Nigeria has come; forget the frustration of the previous year’s leadership. We need you back home.”
Nigeria is a privileged nation, according to Tinubu, who praised efforts to educate out-of-school children, the healthcare program, and the need to alleviate poverty.
“Sincerely, we don’t have any reason to be poor; we’re just lacking in a few leadership areas,” stated Tinubu.
“I focused on that throughout my campaign. Even though it was a really brutal campaign, I managed to win the election. However, if I hadn’t put my all into it, I wouldn’t have.My path had so many obstacles that they would have all stopped me. You can do the same as many of you here who are running for office, as I did when I refused to be stopped.
Additionally, he advised the Nigerians to embrace one another and to avoid animosity and discrimination.
You should hug one another, Tinubu remarked. Eliminate all labels and identities, and get rid of our ethnic differences.
“We are a single family that resides in the same home but in several rooms.
The president had earlier been introduced to some Nigerians who were succeeding in their chosen sectors in the U.S. by NiDCOM Chairperson Abike Dabiri-Erewa.
“Some of them pledged to continue to assist the president in his attempts to reform Nigeria after expressing their admiration for the president’s leadership and courage.
“They pledged to continue representing Nigeria with pride in their host nation and to do their share to advance their home nation.
Oye Owolewa, the first Nigerian-American elected to the US Congress, stated in his remarks that 1.7% of businesses in the US received federal contracts, and 25% of business orders were made by people of color.
Representative for Washington, DC, Owolewa, stated that they have been encouraging people to seize these chances for their economic empowerment.
“Those are the chances for investors to profit the most in New York.
In his office, he explained, “we conduct the training, teach our people how to obtain contracts, and teach our people how to obtain funding.
Olufunmilola Obe, a Nigerian-American Inspector with the New York Police Department (NYPD), also spoke and informed the president about her efforts to uplift Africa, particularly Nigeria, in her position.
She revealed to Tinubu that she served as Vice President and the coordinator of an organization within the NYPD called the African Law Enforcement Organisation.
In the history of the NYPD, Obe is the first African to be promoted to the position of Inspector.
According to NAN, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and the Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the UN, Ambassador Tijjani Muhammad-Bande all attended the Town Hall Meeting.
Uzoma Emenike, the ambassador of Nigeria to the United States, Lot Egopija, the consul general of Nigeria in New York, and Amina Samaila, the consul general of Nigeria in Atlanta, were also present.
Others included Governors AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq of Kwara, Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom, and Governors Uba Sani of Kaduna State.
